At the Emirates Shipping Association, we are thrilled to join the global maritime community in celebrating the annual Day of the Seafarer (DotS) on 25 June. This year, the campaign focuses on recognizing the invaluable contribution of seafarers in protecting the marine environment, aligning with the World Maritime theme “MARPOL at 50 – Our commitment goes on”. As an association committed to promoting excellence in the maritime industry, we wholeheartedly support this initiative and invite everyone to participate.

Seafarers play a vital role in safeguarding the marine environment, given their extensive time spent at sea. They witness firsthand the beauty and importance of our oceans, and they are part of the solution to protect this precious resource. As an association, we acknowledge and appreciate the significant contributions of seafarers in preserving the marine environment.

As part of the DotS 2023 campaign, we encourage seafarers to share pictures of the marine environment surrounding them while at sea. These images serve as a powerful reminder that our oceans are worth protecting. Seafarers can be creative and showcase the equipment used for environmental protection, share special training they have received, and highlight their role in preserving the marine environment onboard their ships.

Join us in raising awareness for the preservation of our oceans. Share pictures of the marine environment you believe is worth protecting using the hashtag #OceansWorthProtecting. Embracing sustainable practices and environmental stewardship, let’s contribute to the UAE’s vision of becoming a leading hub for green shipping. Together, through social media and the campaign hashtag, let’s recognize seafarers’ vital role and inspire positive action for a sustainable future.

In addition to facilitating maritime services and supplies, the initiative also meets the common needs of companies and ships operating in the sector. This collaborative approach fosters collective purchasing power and provides discounts on essential support services, such as financing, insurance, training, and port services. The Blue Pass initiative is expected to reshape the investment environment in the maritime sector in the UAE and the region, offering incentives that attract investors.
