On April 19th, the Emirates Shipping Association held its Annual General Assembly 2023, bringing together our current Operating and Associate Members along with the Board of Directors and the Department of Community Development.
The afternoon session, held in the Emirates Towers, aimed to share the achievements of the Association to date, as well as reveal the ambitious targets set for the Association for the coming year.
The session was opened by Capt. Abdulkareem Almessabi, Chairman of the Emirates Shipping Association, followed by Anders Østergaard, Secretary-General of the Emirates Shipping Association, to present the board’s vision and direction which included its strategy, activities and collaborations for 2023. It was exciting to see a room filled with engaged members sharing ideas and opportunities.
With a look back to 2005 and the original establishment of the UAE Ship Owners Association, through to the present, as the Emirates Shipping Association, Mr. Østergaard revealed the upcoming events, including the Association hosting a Panel Discussion as one of the closing events during the UAE Maritime Week on 18th May 2023 at Four Seasons Resort Jumeirah, along with a host of partner and networking events, culminating in a solid presence at COP 28.
The event was rounded off with the selection of new Board Member ENOC, represented by Dr. Waddah Al Hashmi, replacing outgoing Board Member TRISTAR, formerly represented by Chris Peters. We are humbled by the interest of other candidates and wish to involve them in different ways in the upcoming year.
Finally, Capt. Almessabi revealed the four Strategic Pillars that will guide the Emirates Shipping Association’s efforts over the coming months, including shaping federal maritime regulations, decarbonization, empowering future maritime leadership, and increasing safety and diversity of seafarers.
